Goals and Purpose

  • To promote public confidence and integrity in the child welfare system in Milwaukee County through objective, thorough and timely review of case-specific complaints.
  • Respond to child protective services concerns and questions of citizens related to action or inaction of the Bureau of Milwaukee Child Welfare (BMCW)
  • Determine which concerns require review and in what manner
  • Provide INDEPENDENT reviews of case-specific concerns to assure that policies and procedures are being followed appropriately and make recommendations for BMCW action as appropriate
  • Affirm correct actions of the BMCW when applicable
  • Make recommendations related to systemic issues that emerge as a result of reviews
  • Prepare and distribute public reports annually that contain summaries of findings and recommendations
  • Regularly provide information to the community about our general activities
